Tenants paying more than advertised asking price

Countrywide has found many tenants are paying more than asking rent to secure properties

Last year 12% of agreed rental agreements the tenant paid more than the advertised asking price Countrywide has found. Across the country the averaged agreed rent was 99.9% the highest since 2007.

The highest figure was in London where tenants paid 100.9% to ensure they secured a rental property and to move them to the front of the queue.

In 2008, just 3.5% of deals were agreed at above the asking price while 23.5% of tenants were able to negotiate money off the asking rent. Now only 8% of tenants are able to negotiate a discount on the rent.
