Number buy-to-let landlords triple since 1980

3 times more households receive an income from buy-to-let investments

6% of households now receive an income from buy-to-let investments up from 2% in 1980 according to new from the Office for National Statistics. In just the last 6 years this has risen from 3.8% to 5.6% as more people use property as a means to build an income.

During the same period the number of 26 to 30 year olds renting has risen from 10% in 1987 to 40% in 2015. The charts below show the explosion of the buy-to-let market.
