Those are the figures from a survey of prospective purchasers by developer Strata Homes, which revealed that 10 per cent of would-be buyers are far more thorough and visit 16 homes or more before submitting an offer.
Perhaps surprisingly, existing home owners tend to view more homes than first time buyers – even when the latter category had a substantial choice of properties within their budget.
Less surprising, the feel of an area was deemed of great importance by 86 per cent of current home owners while this was key to only 61 per cent of first timers.
When it comes to decoration and interior design, 27 per cent of existing home owners were interested, while 50 per cent of first time purchasers regarded it as key.
